In the spring of 2024, I joined my family on a trip to Beef Island, spending eight days exploring the island and the surrounding areas. While the trip was primarily a family holiday, I dedicated most of my time to searching for invertebrate life, treating the week as both fieldwork and personal creative exploration.
Two of my favourite images from the trip, Tarantula Treasure, which depicts a dwarf tarantula (Holothele longipes) carrying her egg sac and Vine Voyager, which depicts a hermit crab scaling down from a tree, made it clear to me that it is always worth bringing my camera to locations, even if the primary focus isn’t photography.

The trip resulted in a series of invertebrate-focused images, highlighting rare behaviours and species I had never encountered before. While not submitted to competitions or exhibitions at the time, the photographs became key additions to my personal portfolio, illustrating the progress I had made in macro photography and field technique.
