I was delighted to receive a Highly Commended in the British Wildlife Photography Awards, with two of my images selected for publication in their Collection 13 photo book. The recognition was awarded for my photograph, Cave Crèche, an image of a cave spider inside a mineshaft that I created to show both the intricate detail of the species and the atmosphere of their habitat. Interestingly, this same photograph had been shortlisted the previous year in Wildlife Photographer of the Year, so seeing it progress from shortlist to formal commendation made the achievement especially meaningful. A second image of mine was also included in the book, bringing my total to three photographs published across BWPA collections so far.

The second image that also made it into the book was of this European Stag Beetle that I’d found the year before. I’m very grateful for these inclusions and proudly display my commendation on my office wall!
