I was thrilled to be shortlisted in the Cornwall Wildlife Trust nature photography competition, which drew over 800 entries, and even more excited to take first place in the Micro Marvels category. Two of my images made it to the final round: a close-up of a tiger beetle and one of my glow-worm photographs from a previous trip. The awards ceremony took place in Truro Cathedral, and hearing my name announced as the winner was a genuinely unforgettable moment. It felt like a real turning point in my journey as a photographer.

Winning first place provided recognition from Cornwall Wildlife Trust and validation within a highly competitive field. The achievement also offered exposure to a wider audience of wildlife photographers and conservationists, while strengthening my portfolio with award-winning work.
This award was particularly meaningful because it was my first, first-place win in a larger scale nature photography competition.
